March 31, 1535, in the port of the town of Saint-Malo in Brittany Jehan Poulet, an assistance of Cartier, classified the crew which was to accompany Jacques Cartier for its second official voyage by exploration in North America. On a commission of François the First, King of France the crew was recorded by Jehan Léveillé, conservative with the abbey of Saint Jehan. A group of citizens assisted. The complete text of the recording is given below, including the crew. The original document is always with the communal records of Saint-Malo in series BB.4, folio 17-20 of files.

The diary of Cartier in forwarding also mentions that 110 people took part in it. A number also mentioned in the royal commission and the list of this pcrew of 110 people. In this act, the civils servant who being pilot recording of the document, are quoted there. A dozen of them approximately are known to have been of the voyage being named by Cartier on its newspaper of forwarding.

Forwarding leaves Saint-Malo on May 19, 1535, the explorer is with the head of three ships, the galleon La Grande Hermine 100 tons, La Petite Hermine 60 tons and L'Emerillon 40 tons. The nave of Cartier and fifteen months of food were envisaged. The two Amerindians sons of the Donnacona chief brought in France by Cartier at the time of its last voyage into 1534 are voyage and speak now French.

It is on July 7 only that the travellers put foot at ground, on the "L'Ile aux Oiseaux" , at Newfoundland. They go up the course of the St. Lawrence then, discover that they sail on a river when water becomes soft.  August 10, celebrates of SAINT LAURENT, Cartier gives this name to a bay of Coast-North. A cartographer would later have applied it to the river.

September 7, in front of Stadaconé iroquois's village where it finds the chief of this tribe, Donnacona. The chief tries to dissuade the French to go up the front river. He wants to secure the monopoly of the trade. Cartier refuses, releases two sons of the chief, it will do it without interpreter. A part of the men remain and install a camping, it is the origin of the town of Quebec. Continuous Cartier to go up the river on L'Emerillon, but soon his draught prohibits to him to continue beyond the lake St Pierre

On October 2 of the year 1535, Jacques Cartier and its troop arrived near Hochelaga. The arrived night, it was withdrawn with its men aboard boats. Early, the morning of October 3, with its armed "gentilhommes" and twenty marines, it thus undertook with foot the way of Hochelaga (Indian village) Walking two miles (approximately six miles), Jacques Cartier could finally see Hochelaga. One continues in the launches and soon Cartier arrives ahead of of a village iroquois of the St. Lawrence, Hochelaga within the Royal Mount, mountain which will give rise to Montreal. The village is surrounded of circular a wood rampart, opened of only one door of access and account around fifty of Community houses. The chief of the village affirms that one can continue to go up the river towards the west during the three moons and of the river of Outaouais to move towards north and to penetrate in a country where gold is found. After this one day visit, the French turn back and turn over to Stadaconé where now strong Sainte-Croix.

The relationship with Iroquois of the St. Lawrence is good, in spite of some arguments without gravity, which never degenerate into violence. Cartier however discovers the first scalps in the house of Donnacona. He tastes there also the tobacco which he hardly appreciates. The winter of North America arrives and surprises the French. The river freezes and imprisons the ships. Cartier and his men winter close to the Sainte-Croix river (maintaining theSaint-Charles river in Quebec). The men suffer from the scurvy, Iroquois are also struck, of the French die while the Amerindians draw some much better. Donnacona saves the first colonists of the scurvy in their giving a remedy containing white cedar and soon the cures multiply. In April, Cartier seizes the Donnacona chief, his two sons and seven other Iroquois. Then benefitting from the thaw it puts the course on France, giving up La Petite Hermine out of use. After having passed to the islands Saint-Pierre and Miquelon, it goes back to Saint-Malo July 1536 believing to have explored the part of the Eastern coast of Asia.
